Vip Weekend with PHILIPPE DAVERIO. On the Bassano bridge, hand by hand and with a little kiss of lov
filled by Giulia & Romeo
Although he tells us and swears that he never did a weekend in his life, frightened by the dynamics of the weekend itself, Philippe Daverio, art critic, journalist and television presenter, well loved and appreciated by the audience (now Emporio Daverio on Rai 5), sitting on our chair suggests that we leave for a nice romantic weekend with a girlfriend between the Venetian villas.... With his well-known culture and nice and light humor, he shows us around the streets of Asolo, Bassano del Grappa, Possagno and Maser, on the romantic notes of a famous song which has become a symbol for the Alpine troops during the war...
Philippe Daverio invites us to start from Asolo, which will be our base of accommodation, a small town "all poetry" where we can walk among noteworthy historic buildings such as the Loggia della Ragione, the Cathedral, Casa Malipiero, the castle of the Queen, now Theatre Duse, and where then we can climb along the walls to the castle, the medieval fortress that offers a splendid view over the surrounding landscape. After walking on foot through the hills around Asolo, he suggests to take the car and reach Possagno, a few kilometers away, where there is the gipsoteca of Canova. The word “gipsoteca” comes from greek and means "collection of plaster casts." This in particular includes models of the original sculptures by Canova, which were transferred from Rome to Possagno four years after his death thanks to his brother, Bishop John Baptist Sartori Canova, who wanted an exposure as close as possible to the one of the atelier of the sculptor. Then, always in the company of your partner, Philippe Daverio suggests going to Bassano, for a funny and unusual visit to the Ceramics Museum and the Museum of Remondini, inside Palazzo Sturm, a beautiful building of ‘700 built on the banks of the Brenta. Fine porcelain and earthenware pottery on the one hand, fine-art prints on the other. The important collection of historical Remondini, consisting of original works of art created by the most famous European artists (Dürer, Rembrandt ...) and other objects of art belonging to the family of Remondini will capture our attention by telling us the great entrepreneurial adventure of this family . The critic of art encourages us to reach the bridge and then to walk hand by hand exchanging a “Basin of love” (i.e. “a little kiss of love” in the local dialect), as the song goes, and then, to stop at the end of the bridge to make a first round of grappa Nardini to finally leave, a little dazed, and go for another round of grappa at “the Poly”, where there is also the museum of brandy ... Eventually, after getting completely drunk, he recommends inside the walls of Bassano a break at a fine restaurant. Actually there are many of them… "you may select one following your nose" to taste, among other tasty dishes of the area, the white asparagus of Bassano. And the next morning, after sleeping in Asolo, still a bit 'groggy for too much brandy, with the car we reach Villa Barbaro at Maser, one of the most beautiful villas of Andrea Palladio, an extraordinary alliance between the architecture of Palladio and the pictorial decorations by Veronese. Once the visit of the villa will be over, Philippe Daverio suggests us to ask Mrs. Diamond, Luli, the friendly hostess, the permission to remove our sandal and dip our feet in the cool of the pool in the garden ... a pleasant light sensation that will close our weekend.
