City of art, history and a meeting point between the Italian culture and Central European. Trento is fascinating for all its historic architecture, wrapped in a wide frame of mountains. The heart of the city is the spectacular Piazza del Duomo, with its many beautiful buildings and outdoor cafes. The Cathedral, dedicated to St. Vigil and built on the ruins of an early Christian church, it is a massive building of the twelfth or thirteenth century, decorated with beautiful portals and large rosettes. Next to the cathedral is the Civic Tower, 41 meters high, the Praetorian Palace with the Diocesan Museum, the eighteenth-century fountain of Neptune, Balduini House and both houses Cazzuffi-Rella. And also, the castle of Buonconsiglio, Torre dell'Aquila, the Renaissance church of Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza Dante, Palazzo delle Albere, the fourteenth-century Torre Vanga, the Green tower and the Romanesque abbey of St. Lawrence. On the Doss Trento, above the city, stands the monument with the grave of Cesare Battisti nearby is the Museo of the Alpini. There is also a beautiful view from Belvedere to the west of the city. Behind rises the Monte Bondone, whose highest peak, is Cornetto (2179 meters). Popular in the summer and winter, for, skiing and cross-country trails. The cuisine of Trento: has a Venetian background, with infiltration of Lombardy, Austrian and other regions. Typically Trentino dishes are the smacafam, a sort of polenta with bacon and sausage, baked and fried with flour and milk. Wines: Casteller, Marzemino, Merlot, Muscat and yellow varieties of Lambrusco and Pinot.
