It’s the third largest Italian lake after Lake Garda and Lake Verbano. Its characteristic shape of inverted Y is given by the three branches: Colico to the north, south-eastern Lecco, Como, south-west with a perimeter of 170 km total. The lake is surrounded by mountains whose highest point is Mount Legnone (2609 m) above Colico. Among the tributaries of the rivers Adda is the most important, followed by Mera. The Adda is also the only outlet: leaves the Lake of Lecco and, after forming the lakes and Olginate Garlate, continues in the direction of the Po is the only island in the lake Comacina Island, located in the branch Como in front of City Hall Comacina. The magnificent park of Villa Serbelloni also deserves a visit, now home of the Rockefeller Foundation, lush with exotic plants, roses, rhododendrons, azaleas, and Villa Melzi, in neoclassical style, with its spectacular gardens by the many artistic suggestions. A long walk will take you to the romantic church of St. Mary of Loppia the typical bell-tower, set in the large park of Villa Trivulzio.
