It’s the greatest of the Italian lakes ... Enclosed in the Veneto, Lombardy and Trentino, Lake Garda fascinated Goethe, Thomas Mann, Stendhal, D'Annunzi,o Churchill, Maria Callas ... Every corner offers a starting point for visits and stays of different interests: swimming and recreation (especially on the bank Verona: Gardaland and Caneva World), historical and cultural (the various villas or the caves of Catullo in Sirmione) or sports (especially sailing). Riva offers clear water and excellent sea and wind for enthusiasts tourists and a varied background. From Riva, for example, you can easily reach the valley of Edro, up the Bondone, you go to Brentonico or taming the Ballino Pass via Lake Tenno. The same kind of entertainment you can find at any other location on the west coast with the addition of numerous villas of the very interesting architecture and surrounded by beautiful gardens, and places of historical interest, as the Vittoriale, home of D'Annunzio Gardone Riviera. There are four municipalities that are part of that orbit around the northern lake areas and it is in Riva del Garda, Torbole Nago, Arco and Tenno. Riva and Torbole are the two coastal towns, who were born according to the Lake. Arco is instead a historical and cultural center, a city that offers the features typical climatic and ecological zones of the lake. In its area including Art Nouveau villas and gardens and Renaissance palaces. Tenno is located rather higher, at 450 meters, and is a kind of balcony on Lake Garda: the view from the town is exceptional. Near the town, towards the passage of Ballino, a blue water mirror, Lake Tenno, is another natural wonder. On the historical level, therefore, are present throughout the region evidence of the past: Roman sites, mighty castles, frescoed palaces and churches of interest. These should not be forgotten were places frequented by the nobility of the last century and Austrian writers and intellectuals of the last two centuries and bring the characters donatigli by those visitors. Exceptional vegetation, almost out of place in Trentino, palms, olive trees and oaks is near Lake and on almost to Lake Tenno. Just the village of Tenno is a bit limited from the vegetation. Downstream from the lake to the north mountain. Sports for all tastes: a paradise for sailors (who exploit here the famous Ora del Garda, very strong wind at times) but not only. Many sports centers attract the most varied tastes: there are an equestrian center, a Motocross, a climbing wall, sports fields, swimming pools, bowling and trails. And yet, on the Garda you can play golf, tennis, try your hand at paddle (emerging sport similar to tennis), try canyoning, paragliding or hang gliding off on ...
AROUND THE LAKE Starting from Garda, after a visit to monuments and villas, you could stop at the hermitage of Camaldoli, where fifteen monks live today. Passing through the beautiful Punta San Vigilio, you will arrive to Malcesine. From here you can enjoy an excursion to Mount Baldo, called by botanists "Garden of Italy" and the extraordinary richness of its flora. After a stop at Arco, Riva del Garda is reached, where you can not miss the small masterpiece of Baroque Church Inviolata. From Lemon begins the path on the river bank, dotted with ancient olive groves and lemon groves, which accompany the traveler for a long stretch. You can reach Gardone, so dear to D'Annunzio, then you can stop at Salo, rich in history and charm. But also worth a stop Desenzano, where fans go crazy shopping among the stalls of the market on Tuesday in the Piazza Malvezzi. But surely you can not go on without stopping in the beautiful and romantic Sirmione, famous for the caves of Catullus and the Scaligero castle.
