filled by Giulia & Romeo
For whom Rome had already seen , and maybe even reseen , and sought a special opportunity to come back, here is one occasion that will amaze and captivate : the visit to the exhibition to the Treasure of San Gennaro , still exposed for two weeks until 16 February at Palazzo Sciarra , in Minghetti street, corner with Via del Corso.
For the first time outside of the city of Naples it’s presented not only the Treasury of the Saint, but the original documents, paintings, sculptures, drawings and vestments , which help to understand the extraordinary story of a cult, of a city, of a people. Seven centuries of history , a journey through donations of popes, emperors, kings , nobles and common people to illustrate one of the most important and rich treasures of the goldsmith's art.
Also called the Holy of immigrants, with 25 million members throughout the world , San Gennaro has gathered around him the most devout of each other. From 300 A.D. for the Neapolitans and not only represents a shield against all evil. To protect the treasure othe Deputation of the Royal Chapel of the Treasury, secular organization initially appointed to supervise the works of the chapel dedicated to the Saint in the Cathedral of Naples, and later to defend against threats. The collection today consists of twelve families representing Seats Naples . ( old neighborhoods )
The exhibition examines the cult of San Gennaro from its origins to the splendor of the two masterpieces of the collection : the necklace of San Gennaro, gold silver and precious stones made by Michael Dato in 1676 and the Mitra , in gilded silver with diamonds, rubies, emeralds and two garnets created by Matteo Treglia in 1713. Full of meaning the choice of gemstones. According to the traditional symbolism the emerald represents the union of the sacredness of the Holy with the emblem of eternity and power, rubies the blood of the martyrs and diamonds the symbol of faith unassailable. A long list of distinguished donors who paid tribute to the saint, including Maria Carolina of Austria , Victor Emmanuel II and Joachim Murata , Napoleon 's brother in law .
And leaving the exhibition , Rome will show you its eternal glory : you can make a visit to the Vatican to attend a St. Mass in St. Peter's on Sunday morning at 10 am and then attend the Pope's Angelus at noon, with many pilgrims who come every week from all over the world. You can climb the dome by the elevator and then go up to the top for another 300 steps ... to admire a breathtaking view from above of the entire city . You can walk to Piazza di Spagna , hop on to the Trinità dei Monti ... admire the shops of Via Condotti, walk up to the Altare della Patria ... And still take a photo in front of the Trevi Fountain, walking in the area around the Pantheon , Piazza della Pietra ... have dinner in Trastevere, we suggest the Trattoria degli Amici in Piazza Sant'Egidio , where to serve with a smile and enthusiasm are a group of disabled boys.
